  • Welcome new principal Amanda Green!

Mrs. Green is completing her first year as principal of Broken Arrow Elementary after having served as a learning coach at Broken Arrow for four years. Her prior experience includes serving as an academic interventionist and a fifth grade teacher in Gardner Edgerton USD 231 for nine years. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Emporia State University.

Mrs. Green shared that she is thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to serve the Lawrence community as principal at Sunflower Elementary School. "I have greatly admired the work of Sunflower teachers and students, and I look forward to working together to continue the focus on high level academic achievement and social emotional learning,” she said.

“Success has been a longstanding tradition at Sunflower, and I can't wait to be a part of it all. I know that Sunflower has incredibly talented and committed teachers and staff, and I feel honored to be a part of the team. I am most excited about meeting and getting to know all students and families as we move into the next school year together. Go, Eagles!” she added.

The district congratulates Mrs. Green and the entire Sunflower school community and looks forward to upcoming opportunities for you to get acquainted with each other.

  • A Welcome From Our Principal

Welcome to Sunflower Elementary school and community. We are striving to provide students a school experience that emphasizes academic excellence and social responsibility while providing a positive learning atmosphere.

Sunflower serves approximately 500 students in grades kindergarten through Fifth. Each grade level has 3 or 4 classrooms staffed by dedicated and talented teachers and support staff. We have an English as a Second Language (ESL) program to support our students whose home language is not English. We provide a full range of Special Education programs to support our students with special needs.  Our partnership with the Lawrence Boys & Girls Club provides a high quality before and after school program for our families.

Sunflower’s active PTO supports our educational programs through a variety of ways. PTO provides grants to our teaching staff for curriculum, supplies, and field trip opportunities. Our PTO supports our local families in need.  They provide fun opportunities for our families to get involved in school with activities including: Book Fair, Holiday celebrations and programs with our local business partners.

Through our Positive Behavior Support and CI3T program Sunflower teaches our students clear expectations for behavior across the school setting. Our staff works hard to provide students positive reinforcement for meeting these expectations through our BEST Bucks program.  Our BEST motto is:

    B – Being safe

    E – Effort

    S – Showing Respect

    T – Taking Responsibility

Our staff also provides a comprehensive social skills curriculum; Positive Actions that emphasizes making positive choices that build students’ self esteem.
