On August 21, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights - a total solar eclipse. Weather permitting, it is estimated that our view of the sun in Lawrence will be more than 99% blocked by the moon at the eclipse maximum (about 1:07 p.m.). Lawrence Public Schools plan to provide safe viewing of the eclipse for students. Thanks to a donation from The University of Kansas, we will provide all students with NASA-approved solar eclipse viewing safety glasses to ensure proper eye protection. (Modeled here by the Leading, Learning and Technology team). Schools will also enable families to opt-out of this activity. To learn more about the eclipse and how you can expand the discussion of this event with your children, please visit NASA's website.
