Ruby Bridges Day
We are only 65 years removed from the day six-year-old Ruby Bridges was escorted by four federal marshals as she walked into an all-white school in Louisiana. Ruby's journey was an essential step towards the long overdue desegregation of schools and upholding of the right to education which belongs to every child.

Food Drive: Throughout November
Over 1,100 students throughout Lawrence Public Schools are directly impacted by the recent loss of federal food assistance. This November, our schools are mobilizing to help fill the gap for children and families in need. Students in Valerie Schrag's History 128 Jayhawk Blueprint course at Lawrence High School got an up close look at centuries-old documents and maps from KU's historical archives during a time-traveling field trip to the Kenneth Spencer Research Library.

Lawrence's littlest learners wasted no time testing out the new preschool playgrounds which opened at Kennedy Early Childhood Center, Sunflower Elementary, and Woodlawn Elementary last Friday.

With the introduction of Science as a dedicated special rotation at our elementary schools this school year, students across Lawrence Public School are already solving scientific mysteries and adapting to their new learning environments. That includes students in Staci Ahlvers's Science class at Prairie Park Elementary.

Kindergartners at Deerfield Elementary School received a fashionable and festive surprise when Deerfield special education teacher, Cindy Carlson, recreated their colorful stocking cap drawings as real, wearable works of art.
