We are undergoing the largest elementary expansion in the district! Our new school is going to be an amazing, state-of-the-art facility designed by a committee of dedicated community partners and architects. Our goal was to create a 21st century learning environment while maintaining the familial essence of Sunset Hill.
The construction began on March 2, 2015 and the anticipated completion date will be March of 2016. Staff and students will be moving off-site to East Heights for the fall semester of the 2015-2016 academic year to facilitate this earlier completion date.
Absolutely. As mentioned in the previous answer, staff and students will move off-site in May of 2015 to facilitate an earlier completion date. Until that time, and for a short period upon our anticipated return (January 2016), our construction company has established aggressive protocols to ensure staff and student safety while on-site. If you have any concerns regarding this topic, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
The answer is twofold:
Staff and student safety is our top priority. This would be difficult to ensure with the extensive remodeling that will be occurring in the current building.
It is also paramount that we protect the integrity of the learning environment for our students. With such a comprehensive construction project, this goal would be next to impossible to maintain if we remained on-site.
We will be a late start school for the 2015-2016 academic year. It is yet to be determined whether or not this will be our permanent arrival and departure time in the future.
East Heights on-site Daycare (Boys and Girls Club) opens at 7:00 a.m..
Breakfast served: 8:15-8:35
School will begin at 8:45
School will dismiss at 3:45 (M,T,Th, F) 2:15 (Wednesday only)
If desired, parents may choose to have their students ride a school bus provided by the district to East Heights. There will be various pick-up points in the Sunset Hill area. Students will be returned to the same location at the end of the school day.
Parents may choose to drive their students to East Heights, as well.
Yes! There is a self-advancing PowerPoint located on our website that you may view showcasing various aspects of East Heights. This video will be shown to our students this spring so they may visualize where they will be learning for the first portion of next year.
We will also have an open house for parents and staff. The timeline is dependent upon our access to East Heights this summer. Please watch our summer newsletter for more information regarding the exact date and time of this event.
The Boys and Girls Club will provide on-site day care before school beginning at 7:00 a.m.. They will have an after school program, as well, but students will be bussed to an alternate location as they have been in the past.
Please call the office 832.5880 and let us know if you are willing to lend a hand. We have a committee of folks helping to organize the brigade:)!
