Did you know that 92% of AVID seniors in 2014 completed college entrance requirements?  If you are interested in being part of the AVID program and you are in 7th or 8th grade, let Mrs. Drinkhouse know.  AVID may be for you.

Book club will be meeting today.  Bring your lunch to the library to discuss the book
If I Stay.  If you have read the book, you are also invited after school to watch the movie in the library.  We will have popcorn and discuss movie/book comparisons.  Plan to have a ride pick you up at 5:30.

Did you know you could check out a Kindle, preloaded with books from the library?  All that is needed is a parent permission form signed and returned.  Kindle Keyboards, carried over from years past, have almost 70 titles loaded them.  New Kindle Paperwhites each have a unique set of approximately 10 newer or high-demand titles on them and are now ready to check out.  Stop by the library to get started today.

It’s time to show your Bulldog spirit! Southwest is offering many options in spirit wear this semester.  We’re trying something new in offering Bulldog tee shirts, hoodies and ¼ zips in several different styles – all available on-line through Jock’s Nitch.  Check out the link for great options for supporting your Bulldogs!  The deadline to order is February 1 at
For those Southwest students who have little brothers and sisters who will be attending Southwest, there are small sized SW shirts and shorts available in the office for $5.00.  Adult sized Southwest T-shirts ($15.00), sweatshirts ($20.00) and lanyards ($2.00) are also available in the office.

Finally, for 8th graders in study seminar, the library is now accepting applications for student library aides.  If you are interested in changing a study seminar to a library aide hour, please come talk to Ms. Stucky.  Thanks

  • Kansas regulations require that districts develop and implement written policies to govern the use of Emergency Safety Interventions in all schools.  Emergency Safety Intervention (ESI) is defined as seclusion and restraint that is used when the student presents an immediate danger to self or others.  Lawrence Public School’s Board of Education adopted an ESI policy (GAAF) on October 28, 2013 which is available on the district's website.  The policy will also be available on the building websites and online handbooks as of November 14, 2014. If you need a hard copy of the ESI policy, please contact your building principal.
