Literary luncheon types…this is just a reminder that NEXT Friday we’ll be having our Book-Inspired Cupcakes contest. You still have one week to plan your cupcake design. If you want to know more about this fun contest, see Ms. Lotton-Barker in the ER East (rm 203 – across from the library) for more details! We hope to see you next Friday with some delicious designs!
SWMS Students please remember to complete and turn in your Bulldog Service Credit forms to your advisory teachers as you complete your volunteer service! The goal was for each SW student to volunteer on average one hour of community service. We have a long way to go to fill the Ike Bulldog with service bones and meet this year’s challenge! Keep up the volunteering!
Attention 8th grade Battle of the Books participants, your Battle will be in the library Tuesday, April 21, during 4th hour. Bring your book smarts!
Hy-Vee is a great business partner to Southwest and supports our school in many ways. One way is the ability to fund raise through them. They offer coupon books to their store, available to purchase for $5 and they give back $4 from each book purchased. The best part of the deal is that the very first coupon in the book is a $5 off your grocery purchase of $50 or more. This coupon alone makes the book pay for itself, not to mention the other great deals in the book. The funds we raise through these coupon book sales go toward supporting student centered needs such as school supplies and field trip fees for low income students as well as fun activities like the 8th graders trip to Worlds of Fun, money for club needs, grade level reward activities and many more. Our Bulldogs work really hard to be their best and it feels great to be able to reward their efforts. Please consider buying coupon books as a way to support and reward our fabulous students. Coupon books will be available to purchase in the front office as well as at many evening school functions.
Attention Bulldogs! Sometimes doing little things can make a big difference! Want to raise money for our school and help the environment? Well, for the month of April, Cans for the Community will donate all the money raised by recycling aluminum cans to secondary schools in Lawrence, including ours. So, take note of all of the blue recycling bins around the schools. Put your empty aluminum cans in there! For those cans at home, you can take those to the Cans for the Community blue houses in the recycling section of your local grocery store. Simple. Help the earth and raise money for our school.
Kansas regulations require that districts develop and implement written policies to govern the use of Emergency Safety Interventions in all schools. Emergency Safety Intervention (ESI) is defined as seclusion and restraint that is used when the student presents an immediate danger to self or others. Lawrence Public School’s Board of Education adopted an ESI policy (GAAF) on October 28, 2013 which is available on the district's website. The policy will also be available on the building websites and online handbooks as of November 14, 2014. If you need a hard copy of the ESI policy, please contact your building principal.
