What does science instruction look like in Lawrence Public Schools?

Science instruction is implemented using a hands-on, multi-faceted, integrated approach. Teachers create and use lesson plans using the 5 E's model facilitating experiences that Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate concepts throughout the lesson.

What resources are available for science in the elementary classroom? Housed at the Educational Support and Distribution Center (ESDC), the Science Resource Center contains our extensive collection of hands-on science kits. Teachers use Scott Foresman text resources enhanced with the curriculum aligned kits to provide an inquiry-based opportunity to reinforce the required content for each grade level. Visit the grade level specific links to find out more about the kits available for classrooms at each level of learning.

K-12 Science Curriculum

The K-12 science curriculum is aligned to the Kansas State Science Standards (adopted Feb. 2007) and is written by content/grade level teachers in cooperation with the District Curriuclum Division. Curriculum, in all subject areas, is written and adapted to meet the diverse needs of the students in our district.
