Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education in the Lawrence Public Schools is about helping students of all ages fulfill their working potential. It is about providing our students with:

  • Academic subject matter taught with relevance to the "real world." This is often called contextual learning.
  • Employability skills, from job-related skills to workplace ethics.
  • Education pathways that help students explore interests and careers in the process of progressing through school.

Career and technical education covers a variety of challenging fields in diverse subject areas which are constantly evolving due to the changing global economy.   In USD 497 course work is organized through career fields.  These careers may require varying levels of education – from high school and postsecondary certificates to two- and four-year college degrees.  To explore the career areas that students may enter through career and technical education in the Lawrence Public Schools follow the links to the right.
