With the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) there are some changes to health care in the United States.
Individual Mandate and Marketplace Exchanges
Due to the Individual Mandate, most citizens must be covered by health insurance beginning on January 1, 2014 or pay a tax penalty.
Lawrence Public Schools’ health insurance does satisfy this requirement. Therefore if you currently have health insurance with the district, you do not need to do anything further in order to comply with the Individual Mandate.
If you are not currently covered by Lawrence Public Schools’ health insurance, you may choose to shop for coverage from the Marketplace Exchanges. Information regarding the plans and rates offered is available on the HealthCare.gov website.
There are also Employer Mandates under the ACA. Lawrence Public Schools is in compliance with the regulations to date and is working to ensure the district remains in compliance.
