Did Your Class Graduate Without You?
The Lawrence Diploma-Completion Program Can Help
The Lawrence Diploma-Completion Program may be just what you are looking for to accomplish the goal of completing your high school diploma. The Lawrence Diploma-Completion Program is starting its fourth year of operation located at The Malls shopping center at 23rd and Louisiana Streets. Our address is 711 W. 23rd Street, Suite 6. A second site, at the Douglas County Jail, is in its fifth year. To date, approximately 80 students have graduated from the program.
The program operates in partnership with the Lawrence Public Schools and the Perry school district. Sharen Steele is project coordinator of the non-profit, state funded program, which is sponsored by the South Central Kansas Education Service Center. The program is designed to primarily accommodate students who are 18 years of age or older and whose class has already graduated from high school.
Students who enroll receive a transcript review by high school counselors to determine how many credits are needed to complete requirements to receive a high school diploma. Upon completing the necessary credits, students receive a Lawrence Free State High, Lawrence High or Perry/Lecompton High School diploma, depending on which school they previously attended or the attendance center boundary where they currently reside. Students also receive a completed transcript and grade point average.
The Lawrence Diploma-Completion Program is open August 1-June 30. Interested parties may call (785) 830-9119 with questions or to enroll. Office hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Fridays. After completing Kansas State Department of Education requirements of two six-hour days, students have the flexibility to design their own schedules, come and go as needed and even complete coursework online if they so choose.
Don’t miss this opportunity to “complete a diploma and complete a dream” with the Lawrence Diploma-Completion Program.
