NEW THIS FALL!
Online Parent Access to Student Records
Lawrence Public Schools implemented new student information management software in 2007-08. Our school district chose the Skyward software package in part due to its capability to assist our schools in improving communication with school families and expanding their access to student information. Skyward will allow parents, legal guardians and students to access student records via a secure web connection.
As our schools implement this feature, it is imperative that they receive and maintain current, accurate information about students and families. This fall, all schools will be asking parents to update student and family information. It is critical that student information be available only to those with rights to the information. Student privacy will be our priority as we expand family access to student information and improve school-to-home communication. Watch for more information about this new communication tool from your child's school this fall.
Online Access to Food Service Accounts
Make credit card payments, check account balances, sign up for email notification of low account balances and review student meal purchases online. This new online feature is available to parents through MyNutrikids.com.
SchoolMessenger Notification System
Lawrence schools value ongoing communication as a key to maintaining positive relationships between school and home. We also appreciate the importance of parent involvement to a student's academic success. Our schools use a variety of communication tools to stay in touch with parents: personal interactions, phone calls, emails and letters, as well as school newsletters, Web sites, parent conferences, meetings and events. To enhance our existing communication efforts, the Lawrence Public Schools have partnered with SchoolMessenger, an emergency notification, parental outreach service.
While SchoolMessenger will not replace current modes of school communication, it is an additional tool our schools will use to reinforce our strong commitment to ongoing communication. We will be using SchoolMessenger to inform parents of important school events and to notify parents in the event of a school emergency. Parents also will begin receiving recorded messages regarding student attendance, lunch account balances and other school business matters.
As always, it's important for parents to provide schools current phone numbers, including emergency contact information. If your family's contact information has changed, please notify your child's school.
PARENTS: OUR PARTNERS
Parents involved as partners in their child's education: that's one of the keys to the success of the Lawrence Public Schools. Parents participate in their children's education by volunteering in the classroom, reinforcing school curriculum with activities at home, serving on school site councils and parent-teacher organizations and by maintaining open communication between home and school.
If a school concern arises, talk first to your child's teacher. If additional assistance is needed with the issue, make an appointment to speak to your child's school principal. If the concern isn't resolved to your satisfaction, contact the district office at (785) 832-5000 and ask to speak to the administrative liaison for your child's school.
Lawrence Public Schools believe effective schools maintain positive relationships between home and school. We welcome parent input and participation.
