Lawrence Elementary School Facility Vision Task Force
On March 9, 2010, the Lawrence Board of Education approved a proposal, including $4.6 million in budget cuts and the establishment of a community task force to review elementary facilities for future changes and/or improvements. Superintendent Rick Doll, School Board President Scott Morgan and Vice President Rich Minder developed a charge for the Lawrence Elementary School Facility Vision Task Force and invited interested community members to apply for membership. In one week's time, more than 60 individuals applied.
On May 24, the school board formally approved its charge for the task force and accepted the superintendent's appointments for membership. Morgan and Minder serve as co-chairs of the advisory group. As a follow-up, Superintendent Doll appointed three additional members to complete the roster and announced that Mike Neal, University of Kansas assistant dean of education administration, would serve as as a facilitator for task force meetings, with Lawrence architects Gould Evans Associates, LLC, providing facilities planning support.
