Greetings from the Superintendent

Welcome to Lawrence Public Schools!

I’m proud to be joining the Lawrence community as your superintendent of schools. Lawrence Public Schools’ tradition of high academic standards and the district’s focus on individual students attracted me to this opportunity. This school district is known across the state, and the country, for outstanding academic and co-curricular programs. I’m impressed with the hard work of the school board, administrators, educators and support staff members who make this happen.

I look forward to becoming an active member of the school, city and university communities in Lawrence. My immediate goal is to meet as many of you as possible and hear about your school experiences. When you see me at school functions and community events, please introduce yourself.

To share a little bit of my background, I’ve served 35 years as a school administrator and teacher in Louisburg, Rock Creek, McPherson, Wamego and Herington. I also taught for two years as an associate professor at Kansas State University. My wife, Gayle, and I have raised three sons: Jake is a first-year medical resident at the University of Chicago, Caleb is a doctoral student at Vanderbilt and Jesse recently graduated from the University of Denver.

It is my belief that every organization can improve; I’m eager to lead this process of improvement for Lawrence Public Schools. Please join me in taking this district to the next level of student achievement.

Sincerely,

Rick Doll
Superintendent of Schools

Success Stories

Lawrence schools have many success stories to tell. Our students and staff earn district, state, regional and national honors and awards for their accomplishments.

YOU can help us recognize some of the many outstanding teachers in our school district.

Simply send us a letter of recommendation telling us why your teacher should be recognized. Send letters to the USD 497 Communications Office, 110 McDonald Drive, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Our school district annually selects one Lawrence Master Teacher in the fall and two Lawrence Teachers of the Year (one elementary and one secondary) in the spring. It could be your child's teacher!
