Greetings from the Superintendent

Welcome to the new Website of the Lawrence Public Schools: a school district that is all about kids!

This is my 32nd year in the Lawrence Public Schools, as a teacher, coach, principal, curriculum director, assistant superintendent and now, superintendent. Lawrence is my home. It’s a great community! It’s a community that expects, and deserves, an excellent public school system. Excellence is exactly what we seek to provide in our Lawrence Public Schools.

We have much to be proud of and thankful for in Lawrence, Kansas. Our academic community sets high expectations for its children and youth. Involved and caring parents support our schools and reinforce valuable life lessons in the home. Local businesses contribute reasources and provide relevant educational experiences for our youth. Highly qualified and dedicated school staff encourage life-long learning and celebrate as our bright and talented kids learn and grow.

Our students are musicians and mathematicians. They are poets and performers. They’re creative. They’re energetic. They're the heart of the Lawrence Public Schools. Our focus will always be on educating kids; our bottomline: student achievement.

I hope that this Website provides useful information about our school district. Please contact our communications office at (785) 832-5000 if you have additional questions about our school district.

I'll be seeing you at concerts, games, plays and other school events!

Sincerely,
Randy Weseman
Superintendent of Schools

Success Stories

Lawrence schools have many success stories to tell. Our students and staff earn district, state, regional and national honors and awards for their accomplishments.

YOU can help us recognize some of the many outstanding teachers in our school district.

Simply send us a letter of recommendation telling us why your teacher should be recognized. Send letters to the USD 497 Communications Office, 110 McDonald Drive, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Our school district annually selects one Lawrence Master Teacher in the fall and two Lawrence Teachers of the Year (one elementary and one secondary) in the spring. It could be your child's teacher!
