Greetings from the Superintendent

Superintendent Rick DollWelcome to Lawrence Public Schools!

I’m proud to be serving the Lawrence community as your superintendent of schools. Lawrence Public Schools have a tradition of high academic standards and a focus on individual student's success. This school district is known across the state, and the country, for outstanding academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs. I’m impressed with the hard work of the school board, administrators, educators and support staff members who make this happen.

There's also room for improvement. My goal is to help move this district forward. As you may be aware, we have several initiatives in place this year as a result of school board goals to raise the achievement of all students, while closing achievement gaps. You may read more about the board goals online.

To share a little bit of my background, I served 35 years as a school administrator and teacher in Louisburg, Rock Creek, McPherson, Wamego and Herington before joining the Lawrence Public Schools in 2009. I also taught for two years as an associate professor at Kansas State University. My wife, Gayle, and I have raised three sons: Jake, Caleb and Jesse.

It is my belief that every organization can improve; I’m eager to lead this process of improvement for Lawrence Public Schools. Please join me in taking this district to the next level of excellence in student achievement.

Points of Pride
Lawrence schools have many success stories to tell. Our students and staff earn district, state, regional and national honors and awards for their accomplishments. Here are a few highlights:

Our school district annually selects one Lawrence Master Teacher in the fall and two Lawrence Teachers of the Year (one elementary and one secondary) in the spring.

YOU can help us recognize some of the many outstanding teachers in our school district. Simply send us a letter of recommendation, telling us why your teacher should be recognized. Send letters to the USD 497 Communications Office, 110 McDonald Drive, Lawrence, KS 66044 or email Julie Boyle, communications director.

School Volunteers
Another key to our success is the active parent involvement and community support our schools enjoy from volunteers.
